Rooftop solar power plants for organizations. What should you know and how to receive financial support?

Rooftop solar power plants are the top choice among producers of renewable energy. The popularity of the solution was earned rightfully: part of the price of the power plant in Lirhuania can be covered by the APVA or LVPA support, it does not require owning land, and the produced electricity can cover up to 70% of annual electricity consumption of the organization.

Companies or institutions that decide to install a rooftop PV plant go through similar stages of preparation: they have to assess the condition of the roof, approve the project together with the contractors and choose the most suitable equipment. For this process to go smoothly, a company only needs to know a few basic things and rely on the experience of experienced contractors.

Support for the power plant on the roof

Until September 4th, 2020, 3:45 p.m., APVA accepts applications for support for the purchase of a solar power plant. The amount of support can be up to EUR 200 000 (for a legal entity) and even EUR 1 400 000 (for public facilities), which covers up to 30% of the plant’s acquisition costs.

Several similar calls for support are announced each year, so companies that have not assessed the need for renewable energy can follow the news from LVPA or APVA agencies and prepare for the next stages of support.

Assessment of the roof is a must

The solar power plant is an additional load on the roof of the building. Such a PV plant can create an additional weight of 25-30 kg per square meter. For this reason, certified specialists must carry out an examination of the load-bearing structures before installing the power plant. This study determines the further design process and shows what additional loads the roof can withstand.

Simple steps ensure maximum safety and efficiency

When installing a solar power plant on the roof, safety is one of the priorities because the power plant is generating high voltage on a building where people are working. Smart optimized equipment solves almost all safety concerns: the system identifies faulty modules and disconnects them, automatically shuts off when voltage surges are detected.

This functionality of the system ensures that in the event of a fire in a building, the solar power system system will not complicate the work of firefighters and will pose an additional danger to them or other people in the building.

A few questions will help you choose a contractor

It is probably easiest to choose a contractor based on their company’s experience. Success can be ensured by making sure that the contractor has installed several projects of a similar type to the planned one. It is also important to make sure that the equipment used by the contractors is reliable and advanced: it is best if the is equipment produced in the recent years and the manufacturers should be included in the Tier 1 lists.
